How to Turn On Heating Mode on Your AC

If you are feeling the drop in temperature during the chilly winter months, it might be the perfect time to switch your air conditioning to heating mode. If your system features a reverse cycle or heat pump function, the benefit is that it has a heating and cooling function. With this feature, you can enjoy a comfortable indoor temperature all year round at home or in the workplace. As the colder months approach, switching to heating mode for a warm and comfortable space is simple.

The heating mode on your reverse cycle air conditioner does the opposite of the cooling mode, and can instantly create a warm and inviting space. It works by pumping high-pressure refrigerant through the indoor system, heating the air that is blown over the refrigerant pipes. Therefore, cold winter days are the perfect time to run the heating function to keep you warm and cosy. The recommended temperature setting for winter is 24°C as it is not only energy efficient but also cost-effective.

How to Turn on Heating Mode:

Turning on the heating mode on your air conditioner may vary depending on the model and brand, but the process is generally similar and very straightforward. But it's always best to consult the owner's manual for detailed instructions. If you've misplaced it, follow these steps instead. You can refer to the owner's manual or follow these steps:

  • On the Remote Control or AC Panel - Use the remote control or the control panel on the AC unit to turn on the unit.
  • Set to Heating Mode - Look for the Mode function button and change the settings to heat. Press the button until you see the heat mode symbol, which is generally displayed with a sun icon ☀️ on the display.
  • Press the Mode Button - The mode button allows you to change from auto-cool-dry-fan-heat
  • Adjust the Temperature - Use the up/down arrows to increase the temperature to your desired level.
  • Set the Fan Speed (Optional) - Some air conditioning systems allow you to adjust the fan speed to low, medium, high, or auto.
  • Close Windows & Doors - Maintain efficiency by keeping doors and windows closed.
  • Wait for the AC to Start Heating - Unlike cooling, heating mode may take 3 to 5 minutes to blow warm air.

Steps to Take if Your AC is Not Providing Heat

  • Check if the temperature is set correctly.
  • Make sure the air filters are clean.
  • If you have a split system, ensure the outdoor unit is not blocked
  • Reset the unit by turning it off and on after a few minutes.
