Split system air conditioners are a perfect addition to any home or office, providing cooling in the warmer months and heating in the cooler months. Residential air conditioners were required to have an energy label and have been subject to minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) since 2004.
The new ‘Zoned Energy Rating Label’ (ZERL) provides consumers with clearer information as it takes into account the climate zone you are living in, giving you a better understanding of the product performance when used in your region, which in turn will save on energy.
The Zoned Energy Rating Label is designed to help you quickly and easily compare the efficiency of any air conditioner brand on the market. You can find the most efficient model and save money on your energy bill.
The efficiency of a product is based on the number of stars on the label. To make sure you are getting the correct advice you need to compare products that are of a similar size. Keep in mind, that the star ratings for the old labels have been calculated differently compared to the new zoned energy rating labels.
The size of the air conditioner can be found in the middle of the old label, in the capacity output box. Whereas on the Zoned Energy Rating Label
(ZERL) you can find the size/capacity in a strip near the top of the label.
